After a welcome summer break Reading Interfaith Group has suddenly sprung back into action preparing for our our visit to South Street Mosque on Thursday. As usual our main challenge is publicity, letting people know that the event is taking place besides the reasons why.
Caught up in a burst of enthusiasm. Mustafa and I discovered ourselves on Radio Berkshire this morning which is always good fun and even better if you can manage to wake up first! For those who just happened to listening in at 7.30 am, do please accept our apologies if we cheerfully rambled on, providing none of the useful information you were expecting or any particularly deep words of insight from our different faith traditions. The support of local media is however absolutely crucial in helping to get our message communicated to the widest possible audience. and always very much appreciated (Thanks Claire!)
This afternoon we have been mailing out our membership. This takes much longer than it used to thanks to our membership secretary's organisational skills. A steady increase in numbers over the past year has given everyone in the group much more confidence when they plan an event and it is always nice to anticipate an audience for our speaker.
Everyone who comes to our events has made an individual decision to be there. This continued support from busy lives and so many other commitments is always much appreciated. In our very different ways, it would seem every one of our supporters is a leader.
Thursday evening's event at the mosque does seem likely to be a very interesting and enjoyable event.A considerable number of the Muslim Community based there have been busy preparing the evening's event and there is certainly a very warm welcome. Having never visited a mosque during Ramadan, this will be a new experience for me. However since I have a very poor track record of remembering to bring a headscarf, I will use the picture below as a reminder!
