The theme of journeys seems to be very prevalent right now among the Reading Interfaith Group committee. This morning I have been sending out publicity, posters and press releases for our Pilgrimage event which I have already heard quite a bit about and am very much looking forward to. There is also the Friendship Walk to consider which in its opportunities to engage with other backgrounds and beliefs could well be considered as being part of our pilgrimage through life.
In other ways life in itself is a journey. With every moment there is not just the gift of time but an opportunity to learn from experience and move on. Nearly every faith group I have encountered has some part of their belief based on the idea of repentance, forgiveness and making a new beginning. Perhaps they all have. We are after all only human.
The journey being undertaken by Reading Interfaith Group into the 21st century has become a little scary lately. Whilst we are continuing to provide regular communication with our membership through the newsletter, ( one due out next week), there is now the Internet to consider. Even though this morning I was getting extremely fed up with bouncing e mails and other similar hazzards, the possibilities of having so much convenient communication for free cannot be overlooked.
Thanks to the enthusiasm and an awful lot of hard work by our treasurer, the Reading Interfaith Group is now boldly going where no committee member had ever gone before. The Facebook Group is now well established. I hadn't heard of Facebook 12 months ago so its surprising how quickly we evolve. It is really good to see steadily increasing numbers showing interest in what we are trying to achieve and accepting our invitations to events. Every time I log onto our own website there is some small change to spot such as a new navigation button called "paypal" who has become a new friend of ours lately!
For those who are confident about such matters, this is not rocket science, but it would seem pilgrimages can take place at many different speeds. At present working with the Reading Interfaith Group feels like navigating a rocket to me.
